For Kicks?

I went for a movie last night. I don't usually watch movies on weekdays, but I was on leave yesterday and woke up late so I didn't really mind sleeping late.

It was a Tamil movie, Thilalangkadi (I still don't know what it means because Bala doesn't know the meaning as well). 10 of us went for the movie but I think only 2 of us stayed awake for the whole movie. I am rather proud to say that I am one of the 2.

I went for the movie for 2 reasons:
1. The hero is Jeyam Ravi - his movies so far have been quite OK, so I don't mind watching his movies (there are some actors whose movie I REFUSE to watch even if I am given a free ticket).
2. Those who have gone for the movie said that it was a good watch.

I can't stand the movie!!
It wasn't a bad movie, but it wasn't good either.
Mr. S said that he didn't even realize the time passing, but I felt that the movie was going on and on and all I wanted was for the movie to end.

There are some similarities between this movie and Santosh Subramaniam - in this movie he is acting crazy, and in Santosh Subramaniam, the heroine is the crazy one. And I don't like both the movies (although if you ask my parents, they would say that Santosh Subramaniam is a very nice movie).

Some parts of the movie was not bad, there was even a part or 2 where I laughed out loud (and you have to trust me on this one- I am not the kind who laughs out loud). My favourite part was when Prabu goes to the police station. But for the most part, I just found the acting irritating and the jokes lame. Like most Tamil movies, the plot is predictable and there are many unanswerable questions (like how did he manage to run away from 4 policemen whose guns are all directed right at him). Plus, if he is really such a nice person, how come he felt no regret when cars blew up (and I assume people got injured or died) because of him?

I didn't enjoy the songs as well - maybe I've grown too old and cannot enjoy the current generation songs anymore..*gasp*..have I become my parents?

I guess you could put it this way - go for the movie without expectations and you will like it. Just enjoy the jokes and (for those who can stand him [I can't]) Vadiveloo. There is no complex story line, just humor from the beginning till the end. But go there hoping to catch a great movie - you will be disappointed.

A Movie With A Difference

I went for a Tamil movie yesterday - Unnai Pol Oruvan (A Common Man)

I am not really a big fan of Kamal Hassan, so I never had any plans to go for the movie.
However everyone who went for the movie came back with good reviews, so I HAD to check it out.

It was quite a good movie, really.

Something different.
Something you wouldn't expect from a Tamil movie.

There were no songs where people will be running around trees.
There were no fight scenes where 1 person can beat up 10 others.
There wasn't even a heroine!

The movie was basically about a guy who plants 5 bombs in 5 different places and demands the release of 4 terrorists. The bulk of the movie is about the negotiation between the guy and the police and how the police try to find out who this guy is.

A nice movie, one worth watching.

Unfortunately, there still are Indians out there who want to see a TAMIL movie when they go for a Tamil movie - which means they want to see songs, and sexy heroines, and unbelievable fight scenes and superheros who can fly.

So, I predict that this movie won't make as much money as it should.

Unfortunately.

p/s I would recommend anyone who can understand Tamil to go for the movie. For those who don't, make sure they have subtitle, because I don't think the one I watched had subtitles for the whole movie.

Happy New Year

2nd day of tagging.

Yesterday I didn't feel that bad, but today I am tired.
My head aches.
It will be worse tomorrow, I am quite sure about that.

3 days to go.
I will make it.
I just hope I don't have to be oncall this weekend.
I really, really don't want my first call to be on a weekend.
However, I think my wish won't come true.
It's just a gut feeling.

Anyway, today is New Year for Tamilians and Malayalees (I am not very sure about Vishu- Malayalee New Year, some say it was yesterday, some say it's today. Doesn't really make a difference to me though, although I am a Malayalee.)
* for those who don't know, there are many types of Indians - Tamilians, Malayalees, Telugus, Brahmins, Ceylonese, Hindi, Punjabi, etc. All have different languages, different writings, different traditions, different celebrations.

Today morning, after passover, my HOD wished us all Happy New Year. I was waiting for him to tell that Indians can go back a little earlier today, but that wish didn't come true.
He did tell something interesting though - he said, the Tamil language is one of the 10 languages that is spoken by more than 10million people worldwide.

Well, it is not that surprising, really.
Indians and Chinese infest the world!
I have been to a few European countries for holidays when I was studying.
You can find Indians in all countries!
They are everywhere!!!!
If even 1/4 of these Indians speak Tamil, then that would already be a big number!!

I can't write more.
I have to go back to the hospital.
Hopefully there aren't that many admissions.
I have so many questions to ask the senior houseman.
