Sleep, Sleep

It's been 1 week since my last blog post.
I've been rather busy, actually - this time, for real.

I have had 2 calls this week.

I have had to go Deepavali shopping.

I went and bought a bus ticket for myself and ended up getting Rajiv to come pick me up in Ipoh.

I went and bought the famous Ipoh kacangs - ended up buying so much - which is why I decided not to take the bus.

I had to study for my assessment which was on Friday morning.
Thank God I passed!!
Thanks to YG, actually, who told me to study about ovarian cyst - if not I would have been dead!

Deepavali eve - Friday, I was postcall and had pm off.
We left Ipoh after lunch and reached Seremban at about 5.30pm.
Then, we went for a Deepavali eve party in Cheras.

After makan, I felt really sleepy and ended up sleeping upstairs, where all the kids were running around and screaming and playing.
My Aunty found it weird that I could actually sleep, but truth be told, I did not hear a single sound.
Even when KR called me up at 12am to wish me Happy Deepavali, I picked up the phone and spoke and don't remember a single thing about it.

Anyway, we left Cheras at about 1-2am and reached home about an hour later.

The next day, Mum cooked at home and I helped.
My Aunties and Uncles and cousins (2 families) came over for lunch.
After lunch, it was sleep time for almost everyone, except for some of us ladies who ended up chatting (read : gossiping).

That night, there was a Deepavali party in another cousin brother's house in PJ, which we went to. We were back by about 1am today and then I slept, and slept till 10 this morning..a really good sleep!

See, I had perfectly good reason why I didn't blog for such a long time.

'Holes' Like You've Never Seen Before

What is your perverted mind thinking about?
This is a mail I received today...pretty interesting (it is both pretty, and interesting)

Mirny Diamond Mine, Serbia

It's an absolute beast and holds the title of largest open diamond mines in the world.
At 525 meters deep, with a top diameter of 1200 meters, there's even a no-fly zone above to hole due to a few helicopters having been sucked in.




Great Blue Hole, Belize

This incredible geographical phenomenon known as a blue hole is situated 60 miles off the mainland of Belize. There are numerous blue holes around the world, but none as stunning as this one.

Bingham Canyon Mine, Utah

This is supposedly the largest man-made excavation on earth. Extraction began in 1863 and still continues today, the pit increasing in size constantly. In its current state, the hols is 3/4 miles deep and 2.5 miles wide.

Glory Hole - Monticello Dam, California

This is the 'glory hole' at Moticello dam, and it's the largest in the world of this type of spillway, its size enabling it to consume 14, 400 cubic feet of water every second.

(A glory hole is used when a dam is at full capacity and water needs to be drained from the reservoir)

Big Hole - South Africa

Apparently the largest ever hand-dug excavation in the world, this 1097 meter deep mine yielded over 3 tonnes of diamonds before being closed in 1914.



Sinkhole in Guatemala

These photos are of a sinkhole that occurred early this year in Guatemala. The hole swallowed a dozen homes and killed at least 3 people.


Diavik Mine, Canada

The mine is so huge and the area so remote that it has its own airport with a runway large enough to accommodate a Boein 737. It looks equally cool when the surrounding water is frozen.

Day 2 In Barcelona

I have not been able to stick to my 1 year-ago events.
It was too tiring - putting up posts for the days that I was oncall.
Besides, I had other things that I wanted to blog about as well.

However, I would like to finish what I started - I have about 3 days more of the trip left.
So, here are the pictures we took on the 30th of June 2008.
It was our 2nd day in Barcelona.
As I mentioned previously, Barcelona is all about Gaudi.
On this particular day, we visited 2 other Gaudi creations - Casa Mila and Casa Battlo.

Next up - Casa Mila. This is a model of the place.

No 2 chimneys are the same.

The windows are positioned in such a way as to receive the maximum amount of sunlight.

A chair designed by Gaudi. We were not allowed to sit on sit, but the curves supposedly 'correspond' to those on a human body, making it extra comfortable.

After that, we went to the Barca stadium.

Even now, looking at these sweets make me drool!

Me and Puspha then proceeded to go on a bus ride around Barcelona, just to pass time. And guess what, we met Von Yen, Swee Hung, Jan, Beng and Quek!! Such a coincidence! But it was just a short meeting 'cos we were headed in different directions. Still, it was fun to meet them.

And now I miss them.

I Miss You!

I miss my friends in Russia.
I miss the hostel life in Russia.
I miss the good times we had.
I have no idea when we will meet up next.
I miss you guys!!

Ipoh or Seremban Hospital

I got my posting letter today.

I have been posted to Ipoh Hospital - my 3rd choice.

At first I was kind of disappointed for not getting my 1st choice (Seremban Hospital), but after a few minutes, Ipoh Hospital didn't sound that bad after all. Many of my friends are there, I have an Aunty and Uncle there, it is not really THAT far away from Seremban, and I get to live by myself for the first time in my life!

On the other hand, I won't get to meet my family that often, I will have to clean up my room by myself, will have to do my own laundry and don't get to eat Mum's food as often as I like.

My parents said that I should try appealing for Seremban Hospital, so that is what I am going to do. I am going to appeal, and wait till next week Friday to know whether my appeal would be granted or not. I know many of my induction-mates here are also appealing for a change in posting.

Actually, right now, I don't mind either hospitals, so I will just leave it up to Fate (it's not like I can do anything about it anyway). I am not going to hope, I am not going to wish. I am just going to ignore it and see what happens.

The only not-so-nice thing about the posting is that I will have to start work on the 5th of December and my induction+BTN ends on the 4th. If I actually get Seremban Hospital, then it is not that big of a problem. But if I get Ipoh, I will have to decide whether to go back to Seremban and then travels back to Ipoh again or whether I should just go straight to Ipoh from Kuala Kangsar (where my BTN will be) and spend the night there before reporting for work the next morning. If I do the latter, then my parents would have to bring my stuff to Ipoh and I have no idea when I would get to go back to Seremban next. That is something I did not expect when I left my house last Saturday.

I don't want to think too much into it for now. I guess things will turn out the way they are meant to be. I'll just wait and see.
