Embarrassing Situations

I received this in an e mail the other day.

The title of the mail: Embarrassing Medical Exams

(I don't think the title is suitable though)

Hope you enjoy reading it as I did..

1. A man comes into the ER and yells, "My wife's going to have her baby in the cab!" I grabbed my stuff, rushed out to the cab, Lifted the lady's dress, and began to take off her underwear. Suddenly I noticed that there were several cabs ---and I was in the wrong one.

Submitted by Dr. Mark MacDonald,
San Francisco

2. At the beginning of my shift I placed a stethoscope on an elderly and slightly deaf female patient's anterior chest wall. "Big breaths," I instructed. "Yes, they used to be," replied the patient.

Submitted by Dr. Richard Byrnes, Seattle , WA

3. One day I had to be the bearer of bad news when I told a Wife that her husband had died of a massive myocardial infarct. Not more than five minutes later, I heard her reporting to the rest of the family that he had died of a "massive internal fart".

Submitted by Dr. Susan Steinberg

4. During a patient's two week follow-up appointment with his cardiologist, he informed me, his doctor, that he was having trouble with one of his medications. "Which one?" I asked. "The patch, the Nurse told me to put on a new one every six hours and now I'm running out of places to put it!" I had him quickly undress and discovered what I hoped I wouldn't see. Yes, the man had over fifty patches on his body! The instructions now include removal of the old patch before applying a new one.

Submitted by Dr. Rebecca St. Clair,
Norfolk , VA

5. While acquainting myself with a new elderly patient, I asked, "How long have you been bedridden?" After a look of complete confusion she answered "Why, not for about twenty years - when my husband was alive."

Submitted by Dr. Steven Swanson- Corvallis , OR

6. I was performing rounds at the hospital one morning and while checking up on a woman I asked, "So how's your breakfast this morning?" "It's very good, except for the Kentucky Jelly. I can't seem to get used to the taste" the patient replied. I then asked to see the jelly and the woman produced a foil packet labeled "KY Jelly."

*KY jelly is a lubricant we use when doing certain procedures (not to be eaten)

Submitted by Dr. Leonard Kransdorf, Detroit, MI

7. A nurse was on duty in the Emergency Room when a young woman with purple hair styled into a punk rocker Mohawk, sporting a variety of tattoos, and wearing strange clothing, entered. It was quickly determined that the patient had acute appendicitis, so she was scheduled for immediate surgery. When she was completely disrobed on the operating table, the staff noticed that her pubic hair had been dyed green, and above it there was a tattoo that read, "Keep off the grass. "Once the surgery was completed, the surgeon wrote a short note on the patient's dressing, which said, "Sorry, had to mow the lawn."

Interested In Sex?

WARNING!! 18SX - DO NOT READ IF BELOW 18
(in case someone decides that my post is not suitable for the so-called-innocent mind)

One thing I've noticed for quite some time, and I can almost confirm this after yesterday's post - people are generally more interested in reading about sex and other sex-related topics (rape, molest, incest etc.) than any other topics. My proof?
1. I have posted a few articles with the word sex/rape in the title. The days I posted those were the days that I had many visitors to my blog.
2. Nuffnang most read blog - besides how to earn more money, titles that seems to always makes it to the top 10 seem to be sex-related as well.

My conclusion?
I don't really have a conclusion.
I guess people are generally just interested in coitus.
:P

Anyway, it's my last day of tagging today.
I am SO GLAD!!
I am tired.
I have been coming home at about 12.30am for the past couple of days, and have been waking up by 6.15am.

Not only that, my dreams have been filled with fractures and more fractures.
Yesterday, I couldn't even sleep properly. I kept waking up every now and then, and the first thing that comes to mind when I wake up (while still in the half asleep state) is 'closed bimalleolar fracture with medial subluxation of the right ankle' - a diagnosis for one of the patients in the ward. ARGH!!!!

However, I am oncall on Sunday.
I am really afraid.
I don't know what to do if a patient suddenly collapses.
I hope all the patients in my ward are stable.
And I hope there are not many admissions.
Fingers crossed!!

*I suddenly remember a quote I read somewhere once - love makes the world go round, so make love everyday.
Nice one, huh!

Men And Sex

Something I read in Marley and me...(the narrator is a guy)

We now had 3 girls and 1 testosterone-pumped guy bird(
referring to chickens) that spent every waking minute doing one of three things : pursuing sex, having sex, or crowing boastfully about the sex he had just scored. Jenny observed that roosters are what men would be if left to their own devices, with no social conventions to rein in their baser instincts and I couldn't disagree. I had to admit, I kind of admired the lucky bastard.

Haha...any comments, guys?

Joke

Here's a joke that you might have read before, but hey, it's funny..it's worth another read. :P

During one of her daily classes, a teacher trying to teach good manners asked her students the following question:

'Michael, if you were on a date having dinner with a nice young lady, how would you tell her that you have to go to the bathroom?

Michael said, 'Just a minute I have to go pee.'

The teacher responded by saying, 'That would be rude and impolite.
What about you Sherman, how would you say it?'

Sherman said, 'I am sorry, but I really need to go to the bathroom. I'll be right back.'

'That's better, but it's still not very nice to say the word bathroom at the dinner table. And you, little Johnny, can you use your brain for once and show us your good manners'

'I would say: Darling, may I please be excused for a moment? I have to go shake hands with a very dear friend of mine, whom I hope to introduce you to after dinner.'

Happy New Year

2nd day of tagging.

Yesterday I didn't feel that bad, but today I am tired.
My head aches.
It will be worse tomorrow, I am quite sure about that.

3 days to go.
I will make it.
I just hope I don't have to be oncall this weekend.
I really, really don't want my first call to be on a weekend.
However, I think my wish won't come true.
It's just a gut feeling.

Anyway, today is New Year for Tamilians and Malayalees (I am not very sure about Vishu- Malayalee New Year, some say it was yesterday, some say it's today. Doesn't really make a difference to me though, although I am a Malayalee.)
* for those who don't know, there are many types of Indians - Tamilians, Malayalees, Telugus, Brahmins, Ceylonese, Hindi, Punjabi, etc. All have different languages, different writings, different traditions, different celebrations.

Today morning, after passover, my HOD wished us all Happy New Year. I was waiting for him to tell that Indians can go back a little earlier today, but that wish didn't come true.
He did tell something interesting though - he said, the Tamil language is one of the 10 languages that is spoken by more than 10million people worldwide.

Well, it is not that surprising, really.
Indians and Chinese infest the world!
I have been to a few European countries for holidays when I was studying.
You can find Indians in all countries!
They are everywhere!!!!
If even 1/4 of these Indians speak Tamil, then that would already be a big number!!

I can't write more.
I have to go back to the hospital.
Hopefully there aren't that many admissions.
I have so many questions to ask the senior houseman.
:P

First Day In Ortho

Today I started my Orthopedic cycle.
First thing this morning, I had to attend the passover rounds.
It was extra long because it is a Monday.
Basically, you have to present whatever cases that you clerk at the passover rounds.
If it is a Monday, then you have to present all new cases from Friday up to Sunday.

After the passover rounds, the captain gave us a briefing about the department.
Then we met the HOD - who gave us a short 'lecture'. It wasn't really a lecture, but I can't think of any other words to use.

Then, I went up to the ward.
I was SO BLUR!
I didn't know any cases.
I didn't know how to clerk cases (taggers are required to clerk new cases).
I didn't know how to manage any cases.
I didn't know where the lab forms are.
I didn't know how things were done in that ward.

I tried reading through a few cases; trying to see how to clerk an orthopedic case.
The other HOs were doing their morning rounds.
I kind of managed to figure out how to clerk a case, but then to manage it?
I have NO IDEA!
The other HOs said that that will take time.
How much time, I wonder.

The whole day passed in a blur.
I clerked 2 cases (the MO/specialist was around and he planned the management).
I still don't know the name of the MOs and specialists.
I don't know how to manage any Ortho case.
I failed 1 line setting and succeeded another - which was a pediatric case.

I have 5 days to learn whatever I can before I am put oncall.
I can't imagine being oncall, clueless as I am right now.
5 days.
I have to work from 7.30am to 12am everyday with a break from 5pm-7pm.
When am I going to study?
ARGH!!!!!!
I should have chosen a different proffession.

I Am Nervous!!

I'm nervous!
I start my new department tomorrow - Orthopedics.
I know almost nothing about Ortho.
I don't even know all the parts of the bones.
I don't know anything about adult medicine.
All I have seen are children and more children.

I have to be at the passover room by 7.30am tomorrow.
I have to introduce myself to all the MOs and Specialists there.
I am nervous.
I hope I don't say or do anything stupid.

Tomorrow will be my 1st day of tagging.
Since it is my 2nd posting, I have to do a minimum of 5 days of tagging before I can off-tag.
Is 5 days enough for me to learn all that I need to know about Ortho?
Argh!!!!
