The Child In Me

I am not allowed to take more than 4 days off (including the weekend) at the end of my posting. Since I had an extra day to spare, I took today off.

As anyone who has a day off would do, I woke up only at 10am.

Wondering what to do (besides filling up my log book and cpd book and skt form - all of which I am yet to do), I decided to go to Jusco, just for window shopping.

Then I thought that today would be a good time to get myself a handbag and a pair of jeans - something I have meant to do for quite some time now. I expected Jusco to be empty, but was rather surprised to see that quite a number of people were there. It's the weekday - how come so many people have nothing else to do during weekdays?

Thankfully though, the crowd was not too bad and I went ahead with my mission. I walked in and out of many, many shops to no avail - couldn't find anything that I liked enough to buy. Just about then, I gave up.

Then I remembered that I have not yet bought my niece a birthday present (her birthday was ages ago) and decided to get her something.

I thought of getting her a pencil box with stationery, but another shop caught my attention. The shop had some interesting stuff, and I ended up buying some coloring like thingy from the shop for my niece.

But that was not all.
Suddenly, I felt like doing some 'art work' myself.

And so, here is what I bought for myself.

The end result :
Not too bad for a first timer, right? :P

p/s I am planning to give it to someone, the someone should be able to guess by now that it is for him/her.

Good Movie, Bad Movie

There have been quite a number of new movies playing in the Malaysian cinemas recently.

I have not seen so many new movies, mainly because I have been quite busy adjusting to the new department plus I have had quite a number of calls. I don't usually go for movies when I am pre-call (except if it is a weekend), post-call and of course when I am oncall. That leaves very few days for me to have a chance to go for movies.

I had my weekend off last week, and took the chance to go for two movies, both of which I have wanted to watch for quite some time now.

The first is Final Destination.
I am a fan of Final Destination. I know it is a movie where everyone eventually dies and some of the 'scenes' might be quite disturbing to some.
But, I enjoyed the first 2 Final Destination, and when I learnt that a 3rd one is going to come out, I was just waiting for it to hit the cinemas.

I was really, really disappointed in the movie.
The way everyone died was just too bizzare.
Yes, people did die in weird ways in the previous movies too, but this was just too much.
And some of the 'mechanism of death' was just ridiculous up to the point of being funny!

I guess you can't blame the directors/writers or whoever it is that is responsible - I guess there is just so many ways one can die, but the if you can't come up with a good idea, better not produce the movie, right? Now, no matter how good the previous 2 movies were, people will always talk about how much of a failure the 3rd one is (if everyone else thinks the same way that I do).

The 2nd movie I watched is a Tamil movie, Kanthaswamy.
I am a fan of the hero - Vikram - not because he is handsome or macho or whatever, but because he has been known to act in some really good movies. His acting is good, his movies are worth watching.

But then, so many people who had been to the movie said that it is a bad movie, not worth watching, etc. Rajiv told me that it is a good movie - although he is not really a good person to get an opinion from since he has never said that a movie is not nice before. All the guys who have been to the movie like the movie because the heroine was wearing next to nothing half of the time.

I kept on contemplating to go or not to go, since the reviews have been quite bad, but in the end decided to just give it a shot - how bad can it be, right?

The movie, I think was really quite good.
The story line was something different for a Tamil movie.
The acting was good (not great, but not bad).
The effort taken in making the movie deserves a thumbs up too.
The only unsettling thing is the songs - it was like watching a porn flick - dressing was horrible, dancing was suggestive - quite unsuitable for kids I would say.

Conclusion : Go watch movies for yourself before you decide whether the movie is good or bad.

Well, it's back to work now.
Sigh..
Waiting for my next leave..

My 'Nose Job'

I have been suffering from allergic rhinitis and nasal polyps for many years now.
I tried taking medications many times.
They keep coming back.
Finally, I went for a polypectomy - FESS procedure, last Friday.

To tell you the truth, I don't know much about the procedure.
I didn't even bother reading it up, although I meant to.

The whole process was quite fast.
I went to the Ipoh ENT.
They asked me to go for a CT scan then asked me to choose which date I would like to do the procedure.
I chose last Friday because it was the end of my paediatric posting, and so I can take a few days leave to rest before my next posting.
As it turned out, I was advised to take about a week leave, so I took 2 days leave from my Ortho posting as well (I get 10 days of leave per posting).

On the day of the procedure, they told me to be at the hospital by 7am.
(I was fasting from 12am)
The surgery only took place at about 3pm.
By the time of the surgery, I was cranky.
I think I was more irritated by the long wait rather than the hunger.
All I wanted was to get the procedure over with.

The procedure itself took about 3 hours.
I was under GA.
The moment I woke up from the GA, the first thing I wanted to do was to pee.
The nurses offered me a bed pan, but there was no way I was going to use a bed pan.
Thankfully they were nice enough to help me to the toilet (I was still quite dizzy from the anaes).

After that, I was taken to the ward where I spent the night.
I was discharged the next morning.
Quite fast, don't you think?

Come to think of it, I didn't eat anything the whole day.
Before the surgery I had to fast.
After the surgery, I had a horrible sore throat and couldn't even think of putting anything in my mouth besides water; plus I was sleepy.

Anyway, right now, the procedure is done and over with.
I am taking 2 different flu tablets every day.
I have to wash my sinuses with an alkaline wash 4 times each day- which I hate doing.
I have to use 2 different types of nasal drops.
I have been given another drug to help control my allergies.

I hope the surgery and all the other troubles that come with it are worth it.
Hopefully the polyps don't come back.

I hate washing my sinuses.
My sinuses hurt a little.
Is that normal?
I think I should call my ENT and ask.
I don't care if she thinks I am complaining too much.
Tomorrow, I will call her.
Hopefully she will be able to give me a solution.

Holiday!!

I am on leave! After such a long time, I am back home. The last trip home doesn't count - everyone was busy with my cousin brothers wedding.

I've taken leave till Monday.
It's really nice to have a holiday.
Just relax, do nothing.
One never truly appreciates leave until one works.
When studying, if you don't feel like going for classes, you can always ponteng.
But then, working is different - you have to take leave and leave is SO PRECIOUS!!

My brain is holiday as well, so I can't think of a post to write.
Got an interesting mail the other day..decided to just copy-paste it here.
Hope you enjoy it as well.

If your answer is:

Orangutan = you're sick

Ape = you need a break

Monkey = worse, you suppose to be in the hospital right now..

King Kong = I think you better take 1 year leave..
.......

Why?! ????

.......

A Coconut tree doesn't have bananas!

Obviously you're stressed and overworked.
Take some time off and relax!
