Extended Holiday

CB smsed me on Wednesday morning saying that a few of my friends have received their induction letter. The moment I heard that, my heart started to beat a little faster. Would I get mine too? I waited and waited. By the end of the day, many of my friends had been visited by Poslaju. The next day, I continued waiting. Then, SH (who also had not received her letter) said 'Let's try to call KKM'. I tried calling and calling and calling. They were engaged almost all the time. I gave up. SH didn't give up, and after many thousand tries, managed to get through and was told that her letter would be arriving soon, and true to their words, she received her letter yesterday.

By this time, I was sure that my induction is not going to be with them (those who have got their letters). I came to this conclusion because everyone who registered on the same day with me had not got their letters. Some tried calling, and were told that they would be in the next induction, on the 17th of November. I guess mine is on the 17th as well. Who knew 1 day would make so much difference(CB, SH and many others registered on the 4th of Aug and I registered on the 5th)?

Right now, I don't know whether I am happy or sad that I won't be part of the coming induction. I am happy because the induction is scheduled on the 28th of October, which is a day after Deepavali. If I were in this induction, then I might have had to leave my house on Deepavali day if my induction is far away and I have to register in the morning (hope my sentence makes sense to you). So, that would not have been a very nice way to spend my 1st Deepavali in Malaysia after 6 years.

However, most of my friends are going to be part of this induction, and I am missing a chance of meeting them. Thankfully, some of my friends are like me, having registered a little later, and will probably be together with me. I hope we'll be placed in the same place. *fingers crossed*

p/s this gives me a little more time to shop for clothes to wear during the induction..they have dresscodes!!

10 Reasons Why I Miss Moscow

1. I miss having friends whom I can meet at any time of the day. I miss the long talks, the gossiping sessions, the laughing at stupid jokes times, the movie-watching times and just going visiting to another room when I am bored.

2. The wonderful public transport system. I am not even going to bother comparing it to the public transport system in Malaysia which is almost non-existent and unreliable.

3. Freedom. I got to decide where to go and what to do.

4. I miss the times when everyone in the hostel would be awake at 4am and asleep at 11am.

5. I miss the eating-togethers we used to have.

6. I miss the mahjong games, the karaoke competitions, the outings, the sport's days, the parties and barbeques we've had and late-night birthday celebrations.

7. I miss watching a movie on the laptop with a bunch of people and eventually falling asleep even though the movie is not even halfway through.

8. I miss the freezing cold water when I wash my face in the mornings.

9. I miss planning for a trip, deciding where to go, and feeling the excitement of going for a vacation or going back home for holidays.

10. I miss my Cheetos and Alpen Gold and the juices!!!!

Cookies, anyone?

It's Deepavali next week. As I mentioned in my previous post, I baked some cookies. In fact, I was baking cookies the whole of last week. Now, I have a whole week, with nothing to do. I want to bake more cookies, but I don't know what cookies I should bake. What do you think? Any ideas?

*click on the picture for a larger, better view.
p/s Murukku - done by parents.
Jam tart - I helped my Mom
I did the rest myself..*pat on the back*

It's the first time I'm baking cookies (I have helped Yee Gin bake cookies, but that was only once). I guess for a first timer, the cookies turned out OK. The shape is a bit 'out' though. I can't trust my parents comments much 'cos whatever it is I do, the only comment they give is 'it's nice!'. I guess for my parents, I can never do wrong. :P

Actually, even the amount of cookies is not that much. But it took me quite long to do each cookies because we only have a small oven at home and usually I can fit in only about 20-30 cookies per batch. I guess visitors to the house will have to satisfy themselves with only a small helping of cookies (especially the coconut-cornflake cookies; personally, this cookie is my least favourite one).

I don't know the purpose of this post. I have been browsing around looking for cookie recipes. I wonder what other cookies I can try baking. Hmmmm....

Handphone Woes Part III (Conclusion)

Finally, today I managed to pay a visit to the Maxis service center here in Seremban. Although they detected no problems with my SIM card, they gave a me a new SIM card and now my phone is problem free!! Hooray!!

What I don't get is the working hours of the service center. It is open during the weekdays from 9am to 5pm and on Sat from 9am to 1pm. What is the logic in such opening hours? Does this mean that someone who is having problems with their phones have to skip work or take time off work just to get their phone checked out?

The same problem exists with banks. Now that we can do most payments through the bank machines the situation is not that bad. But then, the system has not been around for that long and does not cover all services. There are still people who have to miss work to do banking work.

I think any business in the service industry (including banks) should be open beyond working hours and also during weekends. Wouldn't that be more consumer friendly? Won't that make life easier for most people? If supermarkets can do it, then why not banks and service centers?

My Car

I have decided on what car to buy. In one of my previous entries, I was contemplating between a Myvi and a City. After much thinking and discussing with my parents and brother, I finally decided to buy a Saga.

Why a Saga, you ask? Because it is cheap (meaning I have more money in hand to go shopping). And because everyone (whom I asked for opinion from) said that it is a 'good value for money' buy.

I am getting a Proton Saga 1.3 Manual (M-line); colour - silver. It will look something like this :

Let me explain my buy.

-All Proton Saga's are 1.3.

-The cars have 3 different specs - N-line, B-line and M-line. M-line is the one with full specs meaning they have an airbag (only on driver's side), sports rims, spotlight, reverse sensors and some other minor things.

-Although most people everyone says that auto will be easier to drive, my parents don't seem to agree. All 3 cars we have are manual. I have never driven an auto car before in my life. My parents and brother say that I panic easily and so it is safer for me to drive a manual. Frankly, I don't care. Whatever. If me buying a manual car would make them feel better, then manual it is. Anyway, a manual car is cheaper and also more fuel-saving. So, why not?

-The colour choices I had:
Green - No way
Black - My Mom said no
Grey
Silver
Red - No
White
Blue - mmm..no..
In the end, I chose silver 'cos...I like silver. Need there be any other reasons?

So there you go. My car. Well, I haven't gotten the car yet, but I've already booked it. And yesterday, my loan was approved. Hooray! Now, all I need is a job so that I can pay for my loan.

Whimble

Whimble is a word created by my friends and I a few years back.

Whimble is the act of whispering and mumbling all in one go.
When someone whimbles, your brain and ears have to work extra hard to understand what the person says.

Many of us are guilty of whimbling at some point or other.
Examples of situations when one may be caught whimbling:
1.When answering (oral) exam questions that we don't actually know the answer to.
2.Confessing guilt

Some people whimble more often than others.
Von Yen tends to slip into whimbling mode every now and then (although in her case, it never happens during exams cos she knows all the answers).
It was because of her that the word was created.
Thus, I think it is appropriate that I dedicate this entry to her.
Von Yen, I miss your whimbling.

p/s don't scold me for writing this post.

For those of you who don't know who Von Yen is would like to know what whimbling sounds like, listen (and watch) to this interview of David and Victoria Beckham. Although he doesn't talk much, whenever he says something, he whimbles. It's the best example I could think of. Enjoy!

Mahjong Online

I recently found something else (by reading other blogs) to do online besides checking mail, checking friendster & facebook, reading through the papers and writing in my blog. Now, I can play mahjong online! I know there are others as bored as me out there, so give it a try..it's not as fun as playing mahjong while gossiping with your friends, but it's better than having nothing to do.

www.viwawa.com
P.S. You have to create an account to start playing and the game is called Wahjong (I have no idea why).

Mahjong competition 2006. I really miss those days!!
_________________________________________________________

My handphone is still in the same state it was yesterday, and the day before. The laptop is getting more attention from me now that chatting is the only way to keep in touch with the rest of the world (besides the fact that I am playing mahjong online). Maxis told me that they have to wait for the technical team to find out what is wrong; I wonder how long that will take.

Handphone Woes Part II

I went out to the shops nearby with my Mum earlier this evening. All of a sudden, I got an sms - my handphone was working! I made a phone call and it got through! I thought that my handphone problem has been resolved. However, the moment I got back home, once again, it was not working.

Rajiv has a theory - He said that it is a sign. A sign that I should move out of the house.

Sigh..I don't know what to do anymore. Will I be able to use my handphone tomorrow?

Handphone Woes

I just don't get it. My handphone and SIM card don't seem to get along with one another.

Here's the thing. I have been using this particular handphone and SIM card for more than two months now. I have not changed any settings related to the network; the only settings I changed was the ringtone. I have had no problems with my handphone until yesterday evening.

All of a sudden, my handphone could be used, or should I say my SIM card couldn't be used. Whenever I tried to make a call, the words 'no network coverage' appear. I switched my handphone off and on a few times, but nothing changed. I thought maybe it was because of the rain; maybe Maxis was having some kind of problem in my area.

Then, my friend came to my house. He is using Maxis. His handphone was working.
I tried my SIM card in his phone. I could use my SIM card.
I tried my SIM card in my handphone. I couldn't use it.
I tried his SIM card in my handphone. It was working perfectly.
I tried my SIM card in his handphone, again. It worked.
I tried my SIM card and my handphone. Guess what, it wasn't working!!

My friend called Maxis. Maxis said they have no line problems and my SIM card is active. They said that I might have changed some settings in my handphone. I DID NOT!! I don't know what to do anymore. I guess I have to visit the Maxis service centre. I won't be able to do it today. Tomorrow, maybe.

I feel so separated from the world. Can you imagine a life without your handphone? I never realized how dependent I've become to it. I find it such a hassle to keep walking to the house phone to answer a phone call. Lazy me..haha

I hope my SIM card and handphone will get over their differences and learn to get along with each other soon. I NEED MY HANDPHONE!!!!!!

Why I Miss Kemaman

1. Coconut shake - the only place I have been able to buy it is in the pasar malam in Kemaman. I used to drink this at least once a week.

2. Pasar malam - the pasar malam in Kemaman has lots and lots of different food. It is held every Monday and Thursday night and stretches for quite a distance.
The pasar malam near my house in Seremban has a few 'makan' stalls and looks like a place you would go to if you would like to be mugged more than anything else.

3. Going to a shop means a 15 minute drive away. Now, going to the shop needs at least half an hour.

4. I had friends there.

5. I had neighbours whom I knew.

6. I don't have to worry about going to a shop and having someone talk to me in Tamil (my Tamil language speaking skills are rather limited). Seremban is FULL of Indians.

7. The goreng pisang shop was about 5 minutes away from my house.

8. No traffic jam (except in the mornings). Seremban - you never know when there will be a jam.

9. Seremban is HOT, HOT, HOT.
