After going through the Fess procedure in April, I have had a few more checkups with my ENT. The specialist was not too happy with certain things going on inside my nose and decided that I have to go for another op - bolserization of the middle turbinates (or something like that) which I did last Saturday.
The thing is, what I did last Saturday was considered a minor procedure, so I was allowed to go back home the same day itself. The problem - the specialist put a sponge (or whatever) thingy in my nose, which is connected to a string which he stuck using a plaster at the top of my nose.
No, I am not going to upload a picture here for everyone to have a good laugh.
Anyway, trust me - it is funny looking.
All weekend long, I was thinking of how to get rid of the strings/sponges before I go to work tomorrow. (I took leave for today, so it's OK).
I came up with a good plan - go to the ENT today and make them take it out.
So, straight from the train station (yes, I traveled all the way from KL to Ipoh with the funny thing on my face), I went to the hospital, to the ENT department.
Unfortunately, my specialist was not there.
Other doctors refused to take it out - "if he says it has to be there till tomorrow, then it has to be there till tomorrow".
The doctor (ENT MO) told me to take a day off tomorrow - and waste a whole day of leave?
As it is I have only 5 days of leave left for this posting.
In the end, I left the ENT department with a mask on my face.
Come to think of it, I don't mind going to the ward with a mask on my face, but how do I explain to people why I have a mask on during the passover?
So, I had to do something to escape tomorrow's passover. The only way to get out of passover is to talk to Dr. House (at least that is how I see it). So, that is exactly what I did.
Dr. House was a little busy, so I waited outside of his room for a while.
And of course I had to meet an MO and a friend of mine while waiting.
Both asked the same question - why the mask? H1N1?
I just smiled and said no.
Finally, I got to go in and see Dr. House.
The moment I went in, I took off my mask and basically begged him - can I please, please not go for passover tomorrow?
He smiled. Yes, he SMILED! It was the first time I am seeing him really smile.
Do you know, he makes the funniest jokes and never smiles?
He can keep a straight face and make the whole room laugh, and I actually made him smile?
Yes, I am THAT funny looking.
Anyway, he smiled and asked me what happened.
I told him about the op and stuff and then he told me OK, you can skip the passover tomorrow.
So, my plan for tomorrow - wear the mask to work.
When everyone goes down for the passover, I will be going to the ENT department to get the strings off of my nose.
Then, it is back to work for me.
I was initially supposed to be oncall tomorrow - thankfully Agnes agreed to do my call for me. Will be oncall on Thursday instead.
Well folks, today I learnt that everybody can smile, as long as there is something funny enough to smile about.
